Schedule:  In the Exhibit and Event industry, deadlines are firm and additional hours beyond 40 hours may be required frequently to meet the needs of the projects and the business. 

JOB SUMMARY: 

Must possess the ability to create 3D designs and 2D print graphics and also manage 1 in-house designer and multiple contract workers. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

 
  • Interpreting and communicating client needs to Design personnel. 

  • Scheduling and supervising development of design renderings, floor plans and models. 

  • Keeping current on new techniques, procedures and materials in the exhibit production field.  

  • Identifying problems and opportunities for improvement/cost savings; recommending and implementing actions to address these.  

  • Overseeing department administration, replenishment of materials, authorization of expenses, timesheets.  

  • Chairing Design meetings. 

  • Motivating staff to ensure all deadlines are met.   

  • Assigning projects to Design personnel.  

  • Implementing and ensuring staff adhere to Health and Safety and Corporate policies.  

  • Scheduling and supervising Design personnel.  

  • Providing staff with technical assistance and training Client. 

  • Clarifying and interpreting client needs and providing recommendations based on budgetary constraints and hall limitations.  

  • Preparing design renderings, floor plans and models.  

 
  • Presenting designs to clients.  

  • Attending job launches. 

MENTAL DEMANDS: 

  • Most of the duties are varied and regularly require analysis, comprehension, or limited judgment and discretion.  Some of the duties may not conform to standard practices requiring the use of the analysis and interpretation to resolve problems. 

  • Requires the use of mathematical skills occasionally or about 1/3 of the time. 

  • Requires continuous concentration, alertness, and attention to detail. 

  • Requires an intermediate level of reading and writing. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • College diploma in Graphic Arts with a minimum of 3 – 5 years Design experience.  

  • Working knowledge of design, exhibit construction and materials. 

  • 3 – 5 years Management Experience. 

  • The position requires good, basic, clerical and administrative skills with emphasis on verbal and written communication skills (in English), good common sense; positive attitude; willingness to take initiative; and ability to maintain confidentiality. 

  • Ability to work accurately and quickly under company deadlines. 

  • Ability to operate computer hardware and to work with software applications. 

  • Communication skills – ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, in writing and verbally. 

  • Interpersonal skills – cooperative, courteous, flexible and good natured. 

  • Effective work skills – conscientious, persistent, resourceful, productive and active. 

  • Must have the ability to make decisions and judgments. 

 
  • Must have the ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships and deal with employees in an efficient and professional manner. 

  • Exhibit/Trade Show industry experience a plus. 

  • Must have reliable transportation. 

  • Must have the ability to work independently. 

  • Must have the ability to multi-task. 

  • Must have excellent customer service skills. 

  • Must have attention to detail and accuracy. 

  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks and commitment to meeting and exceeding deadlines and goals. 

  • Passion for customer service and problem solving. 

EQUIPMENT, MACHINES, TOOLS USED: 

Computer, computer software, scanner, printer, telephone, copier, facsimile machine, calculator and postage machine.  May use other equipment as required for the position. 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Work is performed primarily indoors unless employee is required to go out of the office on errands.  Employee will also be exposed to minimal noise and vibration. 

 

Must be able to clearly see the computer monitor with or without corrected vision.  Must be able to judge or distinguish distance and space relationships.  

 

Must be able to hear within a normal range with or without a hearing device.
